Okay, I really liked this book. It was free, I didn't have any real expectations. I loved [b:Trance|9414014|Trance (MetaWars, #1)|Kelly Meding|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1304009316s/9414014.jpg|14298124] so much I sort of assumed I had a few bad books in my future from Firstreads. But, I really did like this book quite a bit. For the genre it was great! I totally went on B&N before I had even finished it to order the first and third book (yes, I entered the series in the middle, never ideal, but at least you can see that the book stands well without the first), but it isn't available for the Nook. *sigh* All of these ereader formats are a pain! The book was self published (far fewer editing errors than Twilight...), but she has written quite a few and has it available on other platforms, so I don't get it. I will buy them in hard copy eventually, I would like to read more of the story.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed at the "cliffhanger" tactic at the end. The Mating Ceremony would have been a nice stopping spot, Ms. Young. Your characters are enough to bring readers back, you don't have to try to leave us biting our nails. Besides, the genre is a "feel good ending" kind of thing so you can't get that worked up, good has to overcome evil or it just doesn't work! Trust your characters. ( )

Okay, right now, I seriously have no idea what I should write about this book. It was a nice sequel, but that is the only thing I seem to have remembered, except for the outlines of the story (might have something to do with my head cold and major headache ;) ). I didn’t like the book enough to read it again to sort my feelings out, so this time everyone has to settle with what little I managed to remember ;) . I’ll promise to do better with the next book ^^

First lets start with the fact that Caia seemed to remember the importance of a condom and what could have happened to her. Although she doesn’t take her own advice the next time, sigh. Before those two were back together a lot had to be done, every time they grew closer to each other something or someone else came up and they were back to fighting again. This grew very old after a while. Seriously, enough is enough. How dumb can someone be?

It was very refreshing to read the story from Ryder and Jaeden’s point of view. Normally, I prefer reading the story through the eyes of one, maybe two characters and I find it irritating when the story is told through multiple characters, especially if they are the enemy. But it didn’t bother me at all while reading this book, I actually liked it!

I found it very strange that Ryder, a confirmed bachelor and ladies men, from one moment to the other wants to be mates with Jaeden. Although I saw this coming after reading the first book (was actually surprised it didn’t happen sooner ) and I’m very glad, Jaeden really deserves something like this, it happened too soon for my taste. I know there’s an attraction between mates, but for me there could have been a bit more courting and coming to terms with how he feels about her.

Overall rating 3 hearts. The story was good, but I didn’t feel connected enough to the story to really like it (again, probably because of my major head cold). I did like the part where Ryder had to ask Jaeden’s dad for her hand in “marriage” and to find out which things you obviously can’t say about a daughter when her dad’s in the area. That was so great ^^ I also like the ending, with the major cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next book ASAP! ( )

River Cast
(The Tale of Lunarmorte, Book #2)
by Samantha Young

Genre: Paranormal Romance | Young-Adult

Swept into the world of the Daylight Coven, Caia is caught between her loyalty to the Daylights and her new insight into the hearts of the Midnights. As more obstacles are thrown in her and Lucien's way, Caia finds herself becoming further adrift from him and Pack Errante. With no one to turn to, Caia has to make the most difficult choice of all... Which Coven does she truly belong with?

Not all is as it seems in this second addition of The Tale of Lunarmorte series when Caia agrees to learn more about her magical abilities and test her position within the Coven/s by actually training on-sight (with Lucien in tow!) at the Daylight's headquarters in Paris. Having discovered first hand that her powers are beyond what anyone imagined and continuing to struggle with her inner emotions toward Lucien and their "so-called" mating, Caia must once and for all, choose her role within the brewing supernatural war and decide just where her loyalties truly lie. Also, throughout this story, Jaeden, who has ran away from the Errante Pack because of deep (emotional and physical) wounds caused during her capture in Book #1, is being tracked down by the local Pack hunter, Ryder. Returning to her home and family after months of purposely breaking coven law by hunting other errant supernaturals, can be both a blessing and a curse, especially when magical talents of her own and her mate are shockingly revealed. Can both ladies adjust to the new demands placed upon them before the chaos of war absorbs them all?

Book #2 really grew into two full stories, since the reader continued to follow Caia's adventures into taping the potential of her magic and dealing with Lucian while Jaeden had to learn about overcoming her devastating past while opening up her heart to another. Both stories were equally captivating and held a certain charm that made it easy for the reader to dig deeper into their eerily courageous world. Overall, the book smartly balances the little sparks of romance right along the fatal causalities of war, so each chapter really comes alive--full of humorous wit, tragic turmoil, and daring discoveries--Enjoy!

Likes: Lucian is as determined as ever to keep Caia safe (and by his side!), so much so, that his sacrifices, for her, make him an even more delicious character to drool over and cheer on. Also, Ryder was a great comical/up-beat balance to Jaeden's down-trodden personality that together, they created some delightful chemistry.

Dislikes: Again, not much of a Coven fan. The Daylight/Midnight Coven parts in River Cast really dragged for me and their dullness took away much of the excitement within the story... almost so much that I was tempted to begin skipping sections/chapters -- not good! ( )
