DONOVAN'S BIG DAY tells the story of a little boy preparing for his "big day", being the day his moms' are getting marry. It details everything he had to do that day, from waking up, to buttoning his new pants, to meeting with his family at the wedding ceremony. Though this isn't "said" outright in the story, it is suggested that this is a wedding as he walks down the aisle. He is the ringbearer to Mommy and Momma as they are getting married. ( )

This book is a wonderful one to share with a class when discussing kindness and the beauty of differences. The themes include, family, childhood, lgbtq community, marriage and love. I loved this book!

This is the first picture book I have seen that has been about a lesbian couple! Such a cute story. I also really liked how colorful and fun the illustrations were. I am so happy to live in a time where (in the U.S) couples of all kinds can get married.

Donovan's Mommy and Mama are getting married and this book goes through his day preparing for the wedding. I like that the book focuses on Donovan's day up until the wedding and the whole book builds excitement for the wedding at the end. This book obviously makes a statement about marriage equality but i like that it focuses more on Donovan and how happy he is that his mothers are getting married. The author doesn't go into much background information and it's very nonchalant, which I thought made it interesting. It ends where everyone at the wedding is happy for the family and the couple getting married. ( )
