Crops and Robbers is the third book in the A Farmer's Market Mystery series. Most vendors at Bailey's Farmer's Market are looking forward to the Central South Carolina Restaurant Association visiting Bailey's in hopes that their products will be selected to be used in the member's restaurants. As Joan Ashworth, head of the association, and group are visiting with the vendors, some vendors were given a chance to discuss their products, one is completely ignored and when they get to Becca's, Joan is totally unimpressed with her jams. Of course this cut Becca to the quick, but she knew she has an excellent product. So Becca heads for home to start preparing supper for her parents. Upon arriving at home she senses that something is amiss, plus her dog is no where to found. She goes to the building where her kitchen is and finds her dog covered in blood and the body of Joan. Upon going outside to collect her wits, she finds her mother coming around the corner, covered in blood and carrying a knife. Of course mom is considered a prime suspect and is soon arrested for murder. Becca, her boy friend Ian and her sister set off to try and find who might have killed Joan. Could it have been the vendor that was shunned and upset at the way Becca was treated, maybe the mousy assistant who has taken over managing Joan restaurant, maybe the son who is the chef had just had enough of his mother, or again, possibly a vendor that had been done wrong in the past by the association. A very enjoyable series, with characters you can't help but like. Recipes are included also. Looking forward to the next book. I liked this book much more than the first two books. There was a bit of a braggart in the main character that wasn't there in this book and I saw more humorous interaction between some of the characters, a dry wit, that I really enjoyed and hope I see more of in future books. The plot of the mystery was so-so. I didn't guess the ending, but the ultimate motivation of the murderer felt pretty weak to me. Still, if this book is indicative of future instalments in the series, I'd say the series is improving and I'll look forward to reading the next book to find out. A fast paced murder mystery with likable characters and fun plot. Becca's Hippie parents are visiting when a dead body is found in Becca's home (and) her Mother the prime suspect. Becca is determined to solve the mystery and clear her Mother's name. Overall I enjoyed Crops and Robbers and recommend to those who enjoy cozy murder mysteries. Bonus recipes at the end for those who enjoy cooking. ( )
