"When the diplomatic embassy from the United States of Europe was freed from the Tower of London, most of its members returned to the continent. I wonder why this book is named 1635 when it takes place in 1634, following the prison break in London. We get to follow Cromwell and the Scots being chased across the British isles and all the politics surrounding it, because there is a lot of politics.

The story advances slowly. I think Eric Flint likes people to learn about 17th century history more than he wants to change it in this alternative history series. ( )

Solid entry in the series. Interesting look at law enforcement in Scotland that was. The pursuit bit set in the Fens was a little uneven.

Readable as a stand alone. The other good news is it lacks the confusion of names some other books have had. ( )

Oh boy the American way wins over Cromwell who wins over out Good Old Boy Daryl. Not really unless sharpshooter young women are the American way! ( )

Enjoyable as always. Need to read up on Cromwell. ( )

Good story slowed by having to slog through the multiple dialects employed to demonstrate eruditious research. Maintaining vertical(timeline) and horizontal(geography) continuity is sufficiently difficult without having to translate from the muckle of dialects strewn about. Cromwell rescues his children, marries an uptimer and proceeds with an Alternate Reformation. ( )
