This book is about a green octopus who is suddenly captured from the ocean by a walrus chef and taken to a restaurant to be cooked. The octopus then goes on a wild escape while being chased by the chef, but eventually, the walrus decides to be kind and lets the octopus go home to his family. This book has great illustrations with lots of details in it to convey the chaotic feeling of the chase. This will keep the reader entertained because their are lots of details to observe and analyze from facial expressions to the many side characters that also get involved in the chase. The reader can also brainstorm ways the green octopus can blend in with his surroundings or escape because the octopus's ideas fail in the story. This is a very energetic book! ( ) This book is a wordless book but tells quite a story. You fallow an octopus who has just left home for what seems like the first time. he finds his way into a fisherman's boat and ends up on land. You then follow him around town where he gets chased into this restaurant and ends up in a frogs glass of water. The chef gets notified by what looks like the waiter and looks as if he would like to turn the octopus into soup. The octopus is on the run again and this time from a chef who wishes to cook him. The octopus makes it back to the harbor and in the water where he is safe because according to the signs and the officer on the boat there was no fishing allowed on that day. This is a fiction book but I would not know what the moral of the story would be but it was very clear that the octopus did not want to get eaten. Octopus Soup is a wordless picture book. I would use this book to help ESOL students with comprehension of a text. For example, the pages describe the story as a baby octopus being caught, and tossed throughout different environments before returning back to the sea. The pictures were very detailed and described the story without needing words. Students could put the pictures in order to show comprehension of the story and sequence. This wordless graphic novel from prolific picture book writer/illustrator Mercer Mayer is a delight. When a young octopus leaves home for the first time, his curiosity about the world above lands him in trouble - and very nearly into a cook's pot! While neither the characters nor the narrator utter a word in this story, there are plenty of words on newspapers, signs, etc., making this fun for both readers and pre-readers. This would also make a great tool for teaching a graphic-novel-reluctant parent how to read comics! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
