The only reason I finally finished it is because I had a lot of new books come in over the holidays that I wanted to read, so I had to conclude this one. It’s basically snippets from other books about certain managers and then a page or two from Bouton about said manager. Nothing groundbreaking or earth shattering, just a few ok baseball stories. This one goes back to the used bookshop. ( ) An interesting book, in many respects. The material contributed by Bouton is largely warmed-over material taken from "Ball Four," and if you've read that book, you'll see not much that's new. Though the new material is interesting, such as Bouton's take on Leo Durocher. The structure of the book deals with famous managers, with one or two essays on each, many times accompanied by comments from Bouton. Some of the material is old, dating from the 1930s. One is fictional -- a short story by James Thurber. But you do get a hint of what makes managers, managers from the book. Recommended for baseball fans. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
