What do you do when you love your farm . . . but it doesn't love you? After fifteen years of farming, Catherine Friend is tired. After all, while shepherding is one of the oldest professions, it's not getting any easier. The number of sheep in America has fallen by 90 percent in the last ninety years. But just as Catherine thinks it's time to hang up her shepherd's crook, she discovers that sheep might be too valuable to give up. What ensues is a funny, thoughtful romp through the history of our woolly friends, why small farms are important, and how each one of us--and the planet--would benefit from being very sheepish, indeed.… (plus d'informations)

I was struggling through a terribly depressing book chosen by my book club (AHEM, Book Club!) and just wasn't feeling it. So when Sheepish showed up on my book truck at work, instead of shelving it, I brought it home. Yay! Funny, smart, made me want to start a sheep ranch--or at least be one of the people who pay $200 for the "Farm Experience." I should've gone right back to the depressing book club book, but I grabbed another title by Friend instead. Sorry, Book Club. ( )

Catherine and her wife Melissa have a farm near Zumbrota, MN. It's ostensibly a sheep farm, but quite a few additional animals have taken up residence. Catherine's writing style is warm and funny. It really makes you wish you were friends with her! ( )

I loved it! Funny, tender and real life makes for a great read. Now I need to go get her other books and start from the beginning. ( )

Nice little friendly & humorous story about a lesbian couple that run a sheep farm. Picked up on a whim at the Manitowoc library. A sweet read. ( )

While there were some cute stories about sheep and farming, overall this seemed choppy. The author writes that this is a book about the "middle" rather than the beginning of a farm and it's hard to make a middle interesting. I felt like she was struggling to make this more than a series of humorous or touching stories but I don't think she succeeded well. ( )
