You Will Learn Python!   Zed Shaw has perfected the world's best system for learning Python. Follow it and you will succeed-just like the hundreds of thousands of beginners Zed has taught to date! You bring the discipline, commitment, and persistence; the author supplies everything else.   In Learn Python the Hard Way, Third Edition, you'll learn Python by working through 52 brilliantly crafted exercises. Read them. Type their code precisely. (No copying and pasting!) Fix your mistakes. Watch the programs run. As you do, you'll learn how software works; what good programs look like; how to read, write, and think about code; and how to find and fix your mistakes using tricks professional programmers use. Most importantly, you'll learn the following, which you need to start writing excellent Python software of your own: Installing a complete Python environment Organizing and writing code Basic mathematics Variables Strings and text Interacting with users Working with files Looping and logic Data structures using lists and dictionaries Program design Object-oriented programming Inheritance and composition Modules, classes, and objects Python packaging Debugging Automated testing Basic game development Basic web development It'll be hard at first. But soon, you'll just get it-and that will feel great!   This tutorial will reward you for every minute you put into it. Soon, you'll know one of the world's most powerful, popular programming languages. You'll be a Python programmer.   Watch Zed, too! The accompanying DVD contains 5+ hours of passionate, powerful teaching: a complete Python video course!… (plus d'informations)

This is my go to book recommendation for anyone who wants to learn either programming period, or wants to learn Python coming from a basic level in other languages.

Some of the other complaints are that there isn't enough explanation in this book - this is exactly what I love about it! Explanations never worked for me when I started learning programming. Repetition builds intuitive understanding, that's what this book is all about. ( )

A real "intro to programming, and some python too" book. Maybe it's OK at that. But tooo basic, really, and tooo slow. ( )

This is a very good introductory course to Python programming and using PowerShell. It has ways to use other terminal programs out there listed in it, but PowerShell is the one I use since I have a Windows OS. It tells you to use Python 2.7 instead of Python 3, and to use a terminal rather than IDLE (the Interpreter that comes packaged with Python). This is good, since I got to have some practice with using a terminal application. In any case, it starts at the basics, and through 52 exercises builds up your skills in programming and reading code. Since it isn't interactive, what with being a printed book and all, there are some points that aren't really necessary. Perhaps I will find more stuff to do with Python online. That will be pretty interesting.

I don't really plan to go into programming, this is only something I want to do for fun, so... I guess it is a hobby. Anyway, Python is very deep, as are all programming languages, so I will have a lot of time to go with this. ( )
