The characters are often getting into trouble and causing problems. Some characters include bullies, cheaters, and thumb-suckers. The main idea of the story is that being bad can get you into trouble. This is an easy-read. Some of the poems in the book do not rhyme. This shows students that not all poems need to rhyme. Review: This poetry book is full of alternative poems to the classic mother goose poems. In the book Spinster Goose, Mother Gooses sister has naughty children sent to her school to correct there bad behavior. Comments: I enjoyed the poems I thought they were original. I recognized some of the classic nursery rhymes even though the words were different. I think one way to use this book in a classroom would be to read the original and then the version from this one and ask the children how the two are different and how they are the same. The end pages are used to introduce the setting of the book. The illustrator uses the surrealism artistic style in the illustrations. I had mixed emotions about this book. One reason I really liked this book was because of the author’s word choice. The word choice throughout was extremely entertaining and the author put a very funny, yet creepy twist on the Mother Goose Rhymes. I liked that the word choice was different. The author implements a twist on the Mother Goose Rhymes by saying for example, “And she’s always watching to see that they mind. Her rules and her staff keep the children in line.” Another aspect the author included was a lot of change in her text. Every page was different with different size font, different types of font on the same page, etc. It was very appealing. One reason I did not like this book was because of the illustrations. They were extremely boring and the colors were very bland. Each page was a “matte” finish and nothing really caught my eye. The purpose of this book is to show readers the different types of poems that can be written and allows readers to become more acclimated with the genre of poetry as well. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

For children that are simply too naughty for Mother Goose to handle, her sister Spinster Goose knows just how to deal with these uncouth urchins. Fans of Mother Goose are sure to delight in these devilishly twisted alternatives to classic rhymes. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

Some of the punishments meted out by Spinster Goose cause me to laugh out loud. This is a highly creative book with unique poems, and wonderful illustrations. ( )
