Nobody ever would have guessed. I quite enjoyed it. A collection of essays ranging from King Arthur to paganism in late antiquity to Lewis and Tolkien to modern Druidry and witchcraft. A lot of footnotes too. I like notes. Sometimes it even makes me go to the sources used. Okay, maybe often, if I like the book. It also has a pretty cover (which didn't help with the scaring people away from me on the bus bit). Very worth it for anyone interested in the subject matter. ( ) One of Professor Hutton's more scatalogical books, this boasts a range of essays touching on subjects as diverse as Lewis and Tolkien's differing approaches to classical paganism in their respective works, to the modern activist King Arthur. It's an interesting read - my favourite essay was on Neoplatonism, but that's just me! aucune critique | ajouter une critique
In this book, Ronald Hutton brings his wealth of unusual knowledge on Paganism, myth, and ritual to the reader. Hutton is known for having a deep and sympathetic understanding of past and present beliefs that are often dismissed, and an ability to write lucidly and wittily. Witches, Druids, and King Arthur has a unique and accessible flavor and covers elegantly and entertainingly a wide range of beliefs, myths and practices and their place in history.
