“Fast! Faster! Flying! Free!” Louise Smith’s story grabs a hold of the reader in a quick page turner of excitement. Her story follows Louise from a young girl with a love of defying stereotypes and riding along as one of the boys. Throughout her young life she continues to do what she loves. Even as she grows up, gets married, and fits the mold for some time her passion for riding sinks back in. No matter what others told her she continued to race with the guys and do what she enjoyed. Defying all odds Louise races through her life, going where no woman has before.
The illustrator does a great job making the words and feeling of the book come alive on the pages. Most of the pages are captured and illustrated within a box on the page. But, on the pages where Louise is behind the wheel of the car racing there is nothing boxing her in but illustration fills the pages. She literally goes outside the box, outside the norm of what women were configured to. ( )

I don't know how else to explain this other than to say that I really loved this book. It was so well done. From the evident research, to the illustrations, to the mastery of literary craft, this book was a pure joy. ( )
