Business. Nonfiction. Economics. HTML:

Master the fundamentals, hone your business instincts, and save a fortune in tuition.

The consensus is clear: MBA programs are a waste of time and money. Even the elite schools offer outdated assembly-line educations about profit-and-loss statements and PowerPoint presentations. After two years poring over sanitized case studies, students are shuffled off into middle management to find out how business really works.

Josh Kaufman has made a business out of distilling the core principles of business and delivering them quickly and concisely to people at all stages of their careers. His blog has introduced hundreds of thousands of readers to the best business books and most powerful business concepts of all time. In The Personal MBA, he shares the essentials of sales, marketing, negotiation, strategy, and much more.

True leaders aren't made by business schools-they make themselves, seeking out the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed. Read this book and in one week you will learn the principles it takes most people a lifetime to master.

The book gives you broad understanding of the business concepts. The style is accessible and I enjoyed the structure broken down into small bits.

The shallow overlook is the strength of this book, as it gives you an overall picture. That being said, I was disappointed by the reference list when I wanted to go deeper in one chapter. The book is more about best sellers than solid reference books.

Some product placements are too bold and irritated me once or twice. ( )

Overview of concepts that are useful in business, entrepreneurships, systems thinking and the world at large. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in owning a business or working in one.
Drawback: "chapters" are blogpost length texts, and at times I wish there was a bit more depth to the material. It reads like a summary of summaries, like texts you can find at study websites. On the other hand, this book is much better than the average business book, and it can be a helpful stepping stone towards more advanced or in-depth materials. Not equivalent to an MBA, of course, but highly recommended. ( )

I liked the book's easily-digestible format, but I didn't find it terribly useful overall. Worth the read, though. ( )

There is lots of good information in the book that is very digestible (and I took lots of notes), but I found I did skim large portions. ( )

FA successful business roughly define provides something of value the other people want or need at the price they’re willing to pay in a way that satisfies the customers needs and expectations, so that the business Springs insufficient profit to make it worthwhile for the owners to continue operation

At the core, all successful businesses, sell some combination of money, status, power, love, knowledge, protection, pleasure, and excitement the more clearly you articulate, how your product satisfies, one or more of those drives, the more attractive your offer will become.

Framing is the active, emphasizing the details that are critically important, Wildey, emphasizing things that aren’t

Absence blindness: a cognitive bias that prevent us from identifying what we can’t observe.

Loss aversion ensures that this possibility feels bad enough to prompt us to take action now.

Adding scarcity:

Deadlines:

Ie. Making announcements to groups: if for some reason you don’t want to get it done today, your going to want to get it in the next day or two so it can process as soon as possible .

If you are trying to create something, the worst thing you could possibly do is to try to fit Creative tasks in between administrative tasks. Context switching will kill your productivity.

Parkinson’s law:
Work expands, so as to fill the time available for its completion. If you have a week to complete a project, it will take you a week. Rediscover your own timeframe. ( )
