I was wavering between a 3 and a 4, but that whiz-bang ending pushed it up the scale for me. What a way to end that book! The fact that I love these characters so much and that Patricia Briggs is one of my favorites was also in the book's favor. The premise was great—Anna and Charles get to consult on a serial killer case—awesome. Loved it. I have just a few humble requests for future books. 2. No more kidnappings. That too has hit its limit. I know it makes for good drama, but P. Briggs, you’re good at this—pick something else, and do your magic. 3. Last one—even though you write a lovely sex scene, please don’t have your characters stop in the middle of rescuing someone to do it. Despite the above grousing, I still loved the book and blew through it. It’s very easy to slip inside a Patricia Briggs novel and get lost (in a good way). I adore these characters and I now need to reread the original Alpha and Omega novel very soon. 2019 Mercyverse reread: I think I enjoyed this a little more the second time. It’s fun to see a few cool mundanes in the mix. I liked FBI agent Leslie a lot, and it was a nice change of pace to have Anna and Charles working with her to solve a mystery. One thing about this reread—I didn’t remember how dark they are. I don’t know if it’s because I read them so quickly the first time through, or if I was so fixated on the romantic bits, but my goodness. The baddies are really really bad. Bad enough that a good old-fashioned beheading seems like perfectly appropriate punishment. Some of us might even cheer at such things. Anyway, looking at my itinerary, I’m back to Mercy Thompson for the next book. This reread is so much fun! 2021 Unplanned A&O reread, but now I can’t stop: bumped up my rating to five stars, which just goes to show you how much emotion and mood affect how a book is received. It was a little different with each read for me. Love Anna and Charles! 2022 reread: Oh, yeah—that ending still thrills me no end. Beauclaire totally stole the show. Absolutely loved it. It’s very interesting to look at my past reviews of this book and realize how differently I’ve received it over time. I used to think of this series as a little fluffier than the Mercy Thompson series, which is not accurate at all. Maybe because it focused on the romance so heavily from the start, my brain labeled it thus. But, sheesh, this series is dark, enough to give a trigger warning for the references to abuse and rape (they also provide very satisfying, violent retribution for the attackers, if you can abide the limited knowledge—Briggs doesn’t get graphic—of what they did to their victims).
Fair Game is the 3rd book in the Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs. If you want to read these books in order and have not started them yet, I would recommend starting with the short story titled Alpha and Omega in the book On the Prowl. Charles is the enforcer and son for the leader of the North American Werewolves. It is a job that has changed dramaticlaly now that werewolves have come out to the public. Charles is becoming conflicted about enforcing new rules and expectations of werewolves everywhere. When his mate, Anna, is sent to help law enforcement find a serial killer that is now murdering werewolves he finds himself dangerously close to the edge. Anna is an Omega and can calm the wolf inside. Can Anna convince Charles to let her help when it is the man that is in trouble? I really liked Fair Game. The deepening of the story line to this whole world has me craving the next book (don’t want to give spoilers so I really cannot say more). Anna has grown as a character and it great seeing her keep everyone in check. The story flowed very well and the ending was great! I would recommend reading this series in order, although I do think that Fair Game could be read interdependently as well. Est contenu dansDistinctions

It soon turns out all the victims were fae, and so it's far more complex than it first appeared. The interactions between the police and werewolves were fun. ( )
