Howard Fast was a writer who was not thought fondly of by the right wing of American Literati. He was firmly a depression era writer, and his take on the American War of Independence is valuable to the objective reader. His books were printed in large editions for the American Armed Services in WWII, but were quickly allowed to disappear once the House Committee on Un-American Activities was roaming the land. Fast was blacklisted and, briefly jailed. The book is readable, and not overly didactic. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Originally published in 1942, The Unvanquished is the story of the Continental Army and George Washington in the desperate early months when the American Revolution faced defeat and disintegration. The book begins with the retreat across Manhattan's East River that saved the Continental Army after the Battle of Long Island. It ends with Washington's recrossing of the Delaware in the daring 1776 Christmas Eve raid on the Hessian camp at Trenton. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
