This is a loose spiritual sequel to The Best Laid Plans, as a character from that book, Lara, is a TV news reporter fronting like she's Jessica Fletcher solving a murder mystery in this one. It also has the same kind of all the rich people die trope with the Winthrops as what happened in Bloodline with the Roffes. It reads like a Jessica Fletcher novel she wrote around season eight, stale and out of steam, and it isn't the Sidney Sheldon we know and love. ( ) I've read several Sidney Sheldon books in the past. I find them to be either a "hit or miss". In my opinion, "The Sky is Falling" was definitely a hit. The plot revolves around the Winthrop family. They are considered American royalty by most. They lead glamorous lives, donating both time and substantial money to charities worldwide. Those close to them, have nothing but heart-warming thoughts and feelings, and no one has a negative word to share. However, in just one year, all five members of the Winthorp family are killed in a series of accidents. Dana Evans is an anchorwoman with a Washington television network. She believes that there is more to the story than meets the eye. Are the Winthorps actually what they appear to be, or are their secrets yet to be told? Great written mystery/thriller. Would definitely recommend. I've been reading some Sidney Sheldon books because I remember liking him when I was in middle school. It's a good popcorn book, and that seems to be a running theme. The plot moves quickly. There's some light action. There's just not a lot of substance. But if you're in the car (I was) on a long car ride (I was) just looking for a way to pass the time (I was) without having to think (I was), then the book fits the bill perfectly. I'm glad I read it. I won't be reading it again.
