Delilah is in San Francisco to audit a company called Scanguards, and she suspects someone is embezzling money. After she gets too close to the truth, someone tries to kill her. She bangs on a stranger’s front door for help.
Samson has a little problem: he can’t get an erection. It’s been nine months and zip, nada, nothing. When a strange woman begs for his help, he desperate and thinks she’s the stripper/hooker his friends hired for his birthday to help with his problem. After he forcibly kisses the panicked woman and finally gets an erection, his friends and the real stripper show up. Talk about a humiliating situation.
Delilah is a human, Samson is a vampire, and their relationship starts out strong. Though he only meant to use her to fix his problem, their chemistry is instant and one night isn’t enough. On his part, it’s almost a case of insta-love but definitely insta-lust for both of them. Samson’s friends are also his coworkers, and they’re downright loyal. As the owner of a bodyguard company, Scanguards, he doesn’t pay much attention to the human side of his business, just the vampire side, and conflict arises when he finds out Delilah works for him.
I really liked this book. Delilah and Samson are likable characters. She’s strong, snarky, and confident in herself. When she finds out he’s a vampire, she completely freaks out on him. In some books, the heroine accepts this kind of thing too easily, but Delilah was appropriately terrified, intrigued, and desperate to escape him even though her heart told her to give Samson a second chance. I love emotional turmoil.
The minor characters are great. Yummy Amaury, Thomas, and Ricky! Carl is sooo sweet. I love reading in someone’s POV who’s not the H/h—it gives the story more flavor—as long as the POV shifts are done correctly (which they were in this story).
Though I liked the book, it could use a light edit to clean up stray periods and unneeded commas.

There was a lot to like and it got me interested in the series.
But there were things that didn't work for me too.
Sexy times, definitely. They were hot and steamy and I liked them.
But the story needed some tweaking to make it fantastic.
There are times the FMC behaves in a way that is 'Cringe' worthy.
The suspense could have been much better.

Apparently, I have a new trigger. Slut shaming. Our heroine had this thought about a stripper hired for the hero's birthday party.

She glanced at the woman in the nurse's uniform. Disgusting! Her boobs looked fake, and so did just about everything else about her. She looked cheap, and Delilah was sure the woman wasn't just a stripper, but probably also a hooker. She could just about imagine what the tramp was hired to do.

She knows nothing about this woman or her circumstances. Since Delilah thinks the woman is a hooker, she is summarily dismissed as a tramp and I found that disgusting. I can't root for a heroine that thinks this way about other women. DNF'd at 7%.

Samson's Lovely Mortal

Synopsis:
Samson Woodford has two problems. First, he a vampire and second, he’s impotent. While there is nothing he can do for the first, he is determined to solve the second by visiting a psychiatrist. Nothing seems to work until the moment that Delilah Sheridan arrives on his doorstep wet, bedraggled and scared out of her wits because someone is following her. After sharing a night of passion, Samson finds it difficult to let his new found treasure go, especially since someone is obviously interested in killing her.

Review:
An engaging mix of romance, paranormal and suspense.

Yes, the main characters’ names are Samson and Delilah (corny, right?) but their personalities and back stories are, nevertheless, exceedingly well developed and interesting - I really liked the fact that the vampires have very human emotions and predicaments. Samson is completely charming and witty, and the way he copes with his performance problems contributes significantly to the humor in the story. Delilah is just as likeable with her own personal demons. She definitely knows what she wants and never allows herself to be dominated.

Folsom’s vampire world is not unique; it actually calls to mind Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breeds only it lacks the intricate detail of that series. The plot is not the most exciting but it is well paced and intelligent. It also involves compelling themes of greed, betrayal and vengeance. I did, however, have a couple of issues with it. First, the nature of the mystery and the identity of the villain are obvious from the outset, and second, the story would have been just as enjoyable without making the hero a vampire - human corporate types can be just as dangerous. Thus, the paranormal elements feel a bit contrived.

On a final note, while the opening line is seriously explicit, I did not find the sex scenes too excessive or overly graphic (despite the warning at the beginning of the book). It is nothing compared to the ACRO series.

All in all, I went in with few expectations and was pleasantly surprised. This book is a light and entertaining read and I will definitely read the next. ( )
