This is a wonderful illustration and I can read book telling the story of the prodigal son who leaves his father to be on his own but returns to find that has father is not upset but forgives him.

I love this book because it my youngest son's favorite books to read before bed. He loves the pictures and I think secretly because he is my adventerous child he loves to imagine leaving home himself.

One extension I use with this book is for the students to share something that they have done wrong that their parents forgave them for. I would also ask them to think of something a classmate might do to them they could give forgive them for. Another extension is write behaviors good and bad on a note card and have two brown sacks one with good behavior written on it and another with bad behavior written on it. The children must read aloud the behavior cards and determine which sack the card shoud be placed in.
