And that's the problem here—only McNeil really knows because it came out of her head, after all. Characters and situations are presented that don't entirely gel, and maybe on a re-read they might make sense, or after reading more of the story they might make sense (which became apparent as I continued on) but on a first read it is terribly disconcerting. And while I can forgive that because some of the concepts are interesting, what I can't forgive is that I had to read the endnotes to understand some of the things that happened in the books. Things that should have been self-evident from the dialog, narration, and artwork. The artwork is nice. A little static, but it's not an action comic so it doesn't harm the flow. I think it would look better in color, but that would make the trades cost more."
Generally, McNeil draws a variety of character types in fully imagined environments. There’s a whole world here that’s released through hints and stories. She also considers more senses than just the visual, with an almost-poem to smells at the end and songs included earlier in the book. Finder: Talisman is a great stand alone entry into an amazing world! Since 1996, Finder has set the bar for science-fiction storytelling, with a lush, intricate world and compelling characters. Finder: Talisman is the story of a book - the book beloved by misfits and castaways, once glimpsed and forever longed for - and of Marcie, the kid who never gives up her search for magic and meaning. Now, the fan-favorite story is collected in a new, oversized hardcover edition! Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

I for one cannot wait to get my hands on the remainder of this series. If an anthropologist ever quit their job and decided to put all of their experience and expertise into a graphic novel, Finder would be the result. ( )
