I wasn’t sure I was in the mood for a young adult novel when I started it, but I’m glad I stuck with this, the second in Kimberly Derting’s Body Finder series. I really like the special ability that the main character has; it strikes me as especially original in the bloated genre of paranormal romances, young adult or adult, where so many characters are either witches, vampires, fallen angels or shapeshifters (not there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s nice to see something fresh). I love the characters and the sense of suspense Derting builds, although I do get frustrated with Violet’s actions sometimes, especially when she repeatedly ventures off into danger alone. The girl does not seem able to learn from the past. It is nice, though, to have a flawed main character who acts like a regular teenage girl in a lot of ways, despite her special ability.
I like where the series is going-that Violet is going to be actively using her ability to solve mysteries in future books, but I’m concerned that this Rafe guy is destined to be the third in an unnecessary love triangle. I hope I’m wrong about that. How about a book where Violet and Jay can just enjoy their relationship, without stupid secret-keeping and other stressors? I would like that for the next book, and just get my suspense from the murder and mayhem. There you go, Kimberly Derting, I’ve placed my order.

That was a winner! There was just the right mix of romance and suspense and a bit of the supernatural. I loved Violet and Jay, and the story really moved. I'll be pushing this on lots of teen patrons at the library, as well as adults who enjoy young adult books. One of my favorite teen books of the year. ( )

One little well meaning act, in a moment of indecision, can change your life as Violet is discovering. She knew it was mistake. She know she shouldn't have placed the call let alone been there in the first place, but she was sure there was no way she would be connected to the crime, could be connected to body she found. She was wrong, though she didn't know this until it was too late, until the FBI was calling her to explain how she knew.

Someone was watching her, sending her messages, trying to frighten her and they were succeeding. But as long as Violet had Jay by her side she felt reassured that things would be alright. That is until even the one person she thought she could count on, the one person she trusted to trust her in return, no longer believed her. As her relationship with Jay changes Violet finds she has some tough decisions to make, not the least of which involve the FBI.

Desires Of The Dead begins with danger and ends in intriguing. A paranormal mystery that is full of secrets, echoes and double dates. Like most people her age Violet is finding her way in life, but she is also dealing with her strange gift and is beginning to accept it as a part of who she is. As a heroine Violet is fragile, tough, impulsive, determined and in love. This is a sequel every bit as sweet and captivating as the first. ( )

The further adventures of Violet in finding dead bodies. For the first 1/3rd to half of this book I was pretty frustrated with the story. Mainly having to do with a major plot point (one I suspect will be major for the rest of the series) and the way it was dealt with. I would think any sort of adult representing an agency remotely related to law enforcement would know better than to approach a teenager without going through said teenager's parents. Otherwise, the story picked up about halfway through although it does rather stretch the believability factor (paranormal talents aside). Overall I feel this was a better written book than the first and hope that this is a positive progression for the series as I plan to read the next book in the series as well. ( )

Loving this series! I'm loving that it twisted so good at the end. I do think that I should have figured it out earlier. I can sense some love triangle going to happen soon. I don't really mind it I just hope that Violet doesn't break Jays heart. I'm just excited where certain things are going to lead to. ( )
