Unfortunately, there hasn't yet been a follow up. In this book, the main character, Carlin, is running from a stalker ex. She lands in Battle Ridge at Zeke's ranch. There she finds a hiding place but also love. The only problem I had with the book was that the stalker ex seemed too extreme. Otherwise this was a well written enjoyable story. Zeke was a straightforward guy and like in all good romances, devoted to protecting his woman. Carlin made a good fist of being a ranch cook - that was the most interesting thing about her - didn't find her so interesting as a romance character. Found the Brad stalking plot line a little boring, but still, a reliable yarn from Linda Howard and Linda Jones. I didn't get very far - Chapter 5 only.. it was so detailed with ramblings about how Carlin always needed to be safe, and couldn't do stuff because Brad was could find her.. and Zeke went on and on about the cooking and laundry.. mundane tasks. Both situations were repeated over and over. So I had to stop the book. When Carlin was joking around she came across more of a silly airhead.. not funny at all. As I was listening to the audio edition, the reader I found limited - not enough voices for the characters, and while her voice was not annoying, I would have liked more enthusiasm and expression in the reading. I usually enjoy Linda howards books.. but this one is not for me. Sadly it goes into my small DNF pile. I enjoyed this book. A good beginning to a new series. HTML:In the first novel of this steamy contemporary Western romance series by two blockbuster authors, a cowboy and a woman on the run take a stand and fight for love. Carlin Reed lives in fear, off the grid, moving from place to place. So Battle Ridge, Wyoming, a small town in the middle of nowhere, seems like a good place to lie low for a while. But after becoming cook and housekeeper to cattle rancher Zeke Decker, Carlin suspects that sheâ??s made her first mistake. Rugged, sexy, and too distracting for his own good, Zeke is pure temptation mixed with something deep and primal that makes Carlin feel almost safe. Soon things are getting way too hot in the kitchen. Zeke doesnâ??t challenge Carlinâ??s terms: cash, dead bolts, and no questions. It is easy to see that sheâ??s a woman in trouble. Problem is, heâ??s so blindsided by his attraction to her he canâ??t think straight. Zeke tries to stay all business, no complicationsâ??but that game plan is sabotaged the second Carlin gets under his skin. And when her terrifying past follows her to the ranch, Carlin faces a heartbreaking choice: run away from the man she loves, or put him in the cr Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |

The romance was okay, but slow and not very intense. There was not a lot of conflict in their relationship other than when she was going to give in and sleep with him. He didn't try very hard to win her just thought a lot that he would wait until she was ready. I almost felt like they didn't love each other. The scenes on the ranch were interesting but not enough seemed to happen to fill up a book this long.
I'll try the rest of the books in the series when they come out I guess. But I won't be holding my breath. ( )
