I was interested to see when this was written - 2003. 9/11 was still so fresh. I wonder how emotional it would have been to read this only two years after. I think this is a beautiful tribute to the Towers, as well as an interesting story about Philippe Petit's daring walk across them. (

Maybe I don't want to read my 5 year old a book about tightrope walker walking between the world trade center buildings illegally. It is written well and with good illustrations that has very interesting perspectives and at essential to the storytelling. This anxious mama still does not want to read it to a kid. (

Unbelievable true story. Told well. Fold-out pages really impress upon the reader the height of the towers and the distance between them. Written after the towers came down, it's a great tribute to their history. (By the way, there's no mention of how or why the towers aren't there anymore. It's just stated as fact.) (

I would recommend this book to older elementary school students. This book is historical and is a story about a man who walked on a tightrope between the twin towers, pre 9/11. This would be good to have in the classroom because it is a historical story, but takes a different perspective on it by being adventurous and not just telling the facts. It would also be good because this book shows the twin towers before the 9/11 attack and could let children learn about what life was like before that.

Biography

Mordicai Gerstein was already a talented children’s book illustrator when he decided to start writing children’s books of his own. Since then, he has released dozens of titles and has won nearly as many awards for his stories of childhood innocence, spiritual exploration, and imagination gone wild. His biographical story of tightrope walker Philippe Petit won the 2004 Caldecott Medal, making The Man Who Walked Between the Towers the most distinguished American picture book for children in 2004.
