Description :
SCAD, with its rich legacy of historic preservation in Savannah and Lacoste, France, has rehabilitated the Peters House, one of the first homes in Georgia thought to fully embody the Queen Anne-Victorian architectural style. The 4,339-square-foot structure is thought to be Atlanta's oldest, most complete and single most important residence from the post-Civil War period known as the New South.

SCAD's preservation of Ivy Hall broadens Atlanta's sense of history and culture. A magnificent and majestic venue, the facility provides a stimulating and creative learning environment for the university's writing program and is the ideal setting for prominent authors to share their works and professional experiences.

The facility offers a gracious retreat for distinguished scholars and visiting scholars-in-residence and serves as a valuable resource for community and civic groups to host a range of cultural events—from literary salons to chamber music and small ensemble performances.

Along with readings, lectures and seminars, the spring and summer months bring an exciting complement of summer concerts and performance vignettes to the mansion's beautifully manicured gardens and grounds.

Ivy Hall is open to the public for tours, Fridays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. To schedule a group tour, e-mail Lee Todd, coordinator of cultural programs, or call 404.253.3324. For rental information, please contact Georgia Lee, director of Ivy Hall, by e-mail or phone at 404.253.3206.
