Description :
Avid Reader opened in 1997 when Fiona Stager, Kevin Guy, Verdi Guy and Colleen Mullin decided that West End needed a bookstore specialising in new, quality fiction and non-fiction. Since then Avid Reader has grown from strength to strength with the help of our loyal and valued customers.

Avid Reader has seen many changes over the years. In 1999, Krissy Kneen became part time bookseller and lady of the late-night shifts. In 2003 Avid Reader moved to a bigger premise and installed a coffee shop, which is managed by master barista Andy Statham. Anna Hood now manages the shop, while Christopher Currie takes care of all your special order needs.

At Avid Reader we always try to keep the best books in each genre on the shelves, including literature, classics, children's, travel, politics, cooking, history, biography, self-help, environment, queer, business, health, sex, and parenting. The newest titles are as tempting as lollies in a candy store, but nothing beats the all-time great reads. For this reason we carry a mix of new release and backlist titles that have stood the test of time.

Run by knowledgable staff members, Avid Reader specialises in personal service and provides an extensive special order system, book club advice and discounts, gift recommendations, free gift wrapping, and gift vouchers. We have frequent in-store events including book launches, signings, various book clubs and introductory nights for fledgling and established book clubs. Our renowned café serves Toby’s Estate coffee and teas and a selection of sweets and savouries.

Avid Reader also supports a range of community activities. You can also find Avid Reader online at MySpace.

Terrific bookshop that has oodles of events, including book launches and discussions with authors, panels, salons, and also bookclubs and meetings for writers. An essential part of the West End (and Brisbane) community. Now has a children's bookshop next door called Where the Wild Things Are!
