I just found a link to this new site that provides a list and description of NYC's independent bookstores. It's kind of shocking that there are so few these days. The link was posted in a blog called Bookstore People that I follow.

Hey, any New Yorkers planning on attending the Book Expo America conference/book show at the end of the month at the Javits? Sounds like a great happening but the tickets are not inexpensive.

I was a bit shocked too, until I realized that the list is nowhere near complete. LibraryThing Local is much better for finding bookstores.

I'd love to attend, but I'm not involved in the book industry. I'm hoping, though, that Book Expo will at least lead to an LT meet-up.

192 Books, Rizzoli, Partners and Crime, Bonnie Slotnick, Archivia, Shakespeare and Company, Posman, Bookberries can be added in there. There are also some bookstores up at Columbia that can be included.

And if they're including PS 1's miniscule bookstore, they could also add the bookshops at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Asia Society, MOMA, Neue Gallerie, the Frick Collection, and the International Center of Photography.

Trying to keep on the glass half full side of things.
