I was wondering if anyone knows of any places to find used books in the Miami, or South Florida, area.
I already regularly visit The Paperback Book X-Change in North Miami Beach, and the main Fort Lauderdale Library's discard and donations section is definitely huge enough to be classified as a bookstore...
But maybe someone else knows of other places? I tried a few other used bookstores that I found online, but they were all ridiculously expensive. A used paperback novel for $12?? I might as well buy it new.
Maybe even a thrift store that has a good amount of books to choose from, or a particular Goodwill / Salvation Army, or somewhere like that.
I really miss living in Charlottesville where there was a bookstore every tenth of a mile... Literally.

I have not done book hunting in Florida. I have a subscription to the bookseller listings from http://www.BookHunterPress.com (soon to change domains and be under new management) and in response to your query I looked at any open shops listed in the Miami and North Miami area.
There were a few though most seemed to be dominated by paperbacks or library donations/discards. This is true for many cities but one would think there'd be at least one or two large solid used bookstores where hardcovers were at least on a par with the paperbacks.
Possibly a couple factors are at play. Miami is often seen as either a retirement or vacation spot for people escaping colder climes. This can mean that paperbacks are the reading of choice for this audience. Also, it has greater humidity which can do significant damage to books which are not kept under some form of climate control.
The most interesting-sounding one I found was Dunbar Old Books (7061 SW 46th St 33155) with about 12,000 books and an owner with good knowledge of mysteries according to the editorial review. YMMV depending on what you are looking for.
