I'm new to the group, but I have a question - is there a reason why the book reads are chosen on a relatively short-term basis?

I've been in a book group before and books were chosen a few months in advance, mostly I think to allow people to acquire the books and plan their reading.

I suppose the downside to this long-term planning is that it can seem stale if books are already pre-chosen too far in advance.

Hi aarondesk, and welcome! You know, I think someone just put together a plan for selecting books and nobody had any serious objections to it at the time. We operate pretty loosely, so once a book is chosen and a thread started, people can add to the discussion as long as they want to. Some people typically can get a copy of the book pretty quickly and others take much longer, but it all seems to work out so far. So in answer to your question, there's no specific reason it's done this way. :-)

Thanks for the reply. I'm one of those slow people, so my contributions to the group may be limited. But I see there are some interesting books read so far.
