What also is not new is that they have been mistreated by the same governments that sent them out to die in the first. Even by the generals who commanded them in combat. The Army dispersed with bullets a protest of World War I Veterans demanding their promised pensions in 1930.
_____

And the President in 1930 was a Republican.

Hard to believe a "conservative" can so arrogantly refuse even veterans the taxpayer-funded gov't services they've both paid for and earned, while at the same time smearing gov't as useless, a problem, a danger.

Always easy for those who learned to sit up while sitting on an inherited pile of wealth to preach that everyone else should also pull themselves up by their inherited bootstraps.

In a market which sells bootstraps at a premium to those financially able to afford them.

As for the flag-waving chest-thumpers shouting for war against the enemy, and against dissent: We are able to hear them because they are here, not "over there" in the line of fire they support against their dictatorial mantra "Support the troops!"

Reminds me of when some of my right-wing Facebook friends, mostly high school classmates, started ranting that Obama was disgraceful because he proposed only a 1% increase in military salaries next year. I asked which they supported in order to pay more to the troops--higher taxes or higher deficits. Now that was interesting.
