A story about the early 20th century in rural Maine. Dr. Wilbur Leach becomes medical director of St. Cloud's Orphanage. He has seen two women die of botched abortions and feels that he wants to provide medically correct abortions for the women in need.
There is no discussion of the right or wrong of abortions and the women who come to the orphanage are not given counseling or told of other options.

What a great start for the new year. If you keep reading at this rate, you'll surpass your 144 book goal! I read The Cider House Rules years ago and liked it well enough. Have you read A Prayer for Owen Meany by the same author? It's one of my favorite books.
