Harry Potter and Philosophy Essay Three: Friendship in Harry Potter

"...jealousy arises from the mistaken view that the accomplishments of your friend somehow detract rather than add to your own good." I've never thought of jealousy in that light, but I like it!

Honestly, this chapter seemed a bit obvious to me. I couldn't find anything to question or disagree with and of course examples from HBP and DH would be similar to examples from the other books.

I didn't get to read it today! But I can agree with the above. Shamefacedly I admit that I hung out with a couple of ugly girls in jr high because I thought they'd make me look good. I really didn't like them. (blush)

yeah this essay was a bit obvious i agree. and i have a feeling that i was the one used like that in jr. high... ah well i have good friends now..

Looking back I know it happened when I was in school, and I can see it in my friends kids today. I don't really think they purposefully seek out others that will make them look better, but I think it just happens. Then again, I wasn't very social with those who didn't have the same interests as mine.

I wish that Luna's relationship had been explored in this essay. It's a little more complex than the others in the earlier books - especially because she seems to like Harry and his friends, and they seem standoffish of her.
