Why can I not resist another challenge? I can't keep up with all the others. Oh well. I think I will start with what I've done in 2009 and go forward from here. I'm going to try to stick with one's that stay in one state. I've read a few others that wandered around a bit.

So far...

LA - Dinner at Antoine's by Frances Parkinson Keyes

An old pot boiler, dated but interesting in that when you read it you scratch your head wondering how could people ever think or behave llike this.

NC - Silk Hope, NC by Lawrence Naumoff

There were some nice bits about mill life, but overall a disappointment.

CA - The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan

Most of this book was set in San Francisco with flashbacks to life in China. It's an interesting look at the immigrant experience and generational conflict between daughters and mothers. It was OK, but not as good as Tan's earlier Joy Luck Club or The Kitchen God's Wife.

WA - In an attempt to figure out the workings of a 16 year old's mind, I started reading the Twilight books and tore through them all. I had expected stupid, mindless drivel, but I couldn't stop. I'm drivelling.

I put a ticker here, but it doesn't seem to want to work anymore. Let's see if we can get it to come back.

MN - Much of the action of State of Wonder takes place in Brazil, but it all starts and ends in Minnesota.

Massachusetts - with John Adams. I've grown quite fond of the little president.

Some day I hope to get to read John Adams. When we moved, it had to get packed up unread, and until bookcases are built, it must continue languishing in a box.
