Hello!

Last month I was privileged have a peek at drafts of a ground-breaking new book on the world's nightjars by Nigel Cleere, to be published later this year by non-profit publisher WILDGuides. The book looks absolutely stunning and includes the first ever published photographs for quite a number of species. Readers may be familiar with Cleere's earlier Pica Press book, the weak illustrations of which leave a lot to be desired and severely limit its utility as an identification tool. The forthcoming guide is a real eye-opener!

More information, including a couple of scanned spreads are at: http://www.wildguides.co.uk/forthcomingtitles/54-nightjars-of-the-world-a-photog...

For those not familiar with WILDGuides, they are a publisher worth patronising, not just because many of their guides are the best available for field identification, but also because profits from sale go to conservation NGOs.

Enjoy!

Ah, Chris, I'm envious of your sneak peak! I've been following the progress of this book for a while -- and its changing due date. I came across the website with the sample pages some months ago that you noted, which made me even more anxious for the book's release.

Let me know if you come across any samples of these 9 upcoming books:
- Reed and Bush Warblers
- Birds of Caucasus
- Field Guide to the Birds of Paraguay
- Bulbuls
- Larks, Pipits and Wagtails
- Field Guide to the Birds of China, Tibet and Taiwan
- Old World Flycatchers
- Wheatears
- Cotingas and Manakins

Hello Soleglad!

Yes, the Nightjars book has been in production for a long while. I was fortunate to get time to look through the entire book one evening on a desktop at the house of one of the editors. It is an amazing work - particularly for the photos of previously unknown species. Even as we perused the work new photographs were coming in and being edited into the book.

Regarding the other books, most cover birds outside my region of expertise and I have seen none of them, though colleagues are authors of Paraguay and Cotingas and I was hoping to obtain a review copy of the latter. If so, I'll let you know... though I suspect you will be getting hold of copies in any case!
