Just read The Triumvirate about the efforts of Jay, Hamilton and Madison to ensure the Constitution would be ratified.

Oddly enough, I have a book I thought you meant, but it's The Great Triumvirate: Webster, Clay, and Calhoun. Wonder how many other triumvirates in American history we can come up with?

I think it tends to get used in the sense of "three important men who do something grand. Kinda an odd phrase, since the two famous triumvirates went rather quickly into civil wars.

I agree it is not a great title, and certainly not the most original. Interesting that Clay, Webster adn Calhoun were not collaborating and often opposed each other.
