Whats your favorite manga cover art?

A random question, I know.

It's just that I've always really likes the cover art for Demon Diary vol. 1

Higurashi When They Cry, Volume 1. It sums up the creepy feel to the series properly.

I really like Bizenghast.

Bizenghast is definitely different. The fist time I saw the cover in a book store, I thought that it looked a little odd. Maybe I'll read it sometime if the library has it.

I often buy random books by cover, so I can't pick just one. I collect my favorite covers by the dozens on myanimelist. ;)

Août 14, 2009, 12:32 pm

I checked it out, but what exactly is myanimelist?

7shinkeikaku
Août 14, 2009, 12:52 pm

MAL is a site in which you can track anime you watch and manga you read. You can also read/make reviews and recommendations.

It's a big community and you have your own profile. So what I'm referring to is on http://myanimelist.net/profile/shinkeikaku If you scroll down and click the show spoiler buttons, there's more covers. ;)

I already have accounts on two different book sites and I think that it may be a bit much to have a third (even if it's tempting).

I'll think about it.

I don't like the interface at MAL all that much. It also only lets you specify how many volumes of something you have, not which ones they are (useless for a collector!). I prefer Baka Updates manga site for reviews and cover art (though that's very scanlation-oriented, so it doesn't have any good cataloguing features either).

I think my favorite cover that I've seen recently is on Hyakka Teien no Higeki. It's very colorful. Most of my other favorites are wonderful because of the matte paper they're printed on, which doesn't show up well in photos, but basically anything by Reiko Okano is lovely.

Not to get too off-topic, but the most useful thing about MAL is finding people who read stuff that you like (profiles, clubs, reviews, forums, etc) and then finding out what you're missing. I've read a lot and still can find new stuff all the time. BU has too many private lists, at least on all the entries I've added. I don't care for the layout there myself, so to each her own. ^_^;;

Actually, my most recent favorite cover would be あめのちはれ (1). Nice blue watercolors.

I mentioned this over on the "first manga" thread, but Her Majesty's Dog volume 1 continues to be my favorite cover.

Without a doubt it would be Skip Beat, Volume 16.
Although there are many manga with great covers.

I like the cover of Vampire Yui Kanonsho book 3, but I like all art by Kakinouchi Narumi :)

I love the Cover Art from Bride of the water god 2 or Bride of the water god 3.

If you like fantasy storys mixed with history and gods, and a great love story, than you should read this.
Although technically it is a manhwa.

I totally agree the cover art is really nice. So what is the series about? How many books are in the series? Has the entire series been published?

What manhwa?

novelandmangacrazy
Manhwa = a korean manga

The story is a about a poor village, where it has not been raining for a very long time, the crops are dying... So they villagers believe in gods, for example the water god, and so they have to give away a daughter to the water god...

*is searching the net* here is a better plot summary:
Soah is a girl from a small village suffering from a long devastating drought. In order to appease the Water God, the most beautiful girl from their village must be sacrificed. Soah is chosen to become Habaek's bride, but instead dying at the hands of a monster, she was unexpectedly rescued by Habaek and brought to his Water Kingdom.

As Soah learns to live in a strange new world filled with gods, she is caught up in various intrigues surrounding Habaek and finds it increasingly difficult to know who she can trust.

4 Volumes have been published, and as far as I know there are at the moment 9 volumes and it is not finished.
The Art is just great, not only on the cover, but also in the manga! There is no difference, maybe you should check out the internet for examples.
But I really recommend buying the series, because Dark Horse did really a very good job with the publishing! The Manga is bigger than others, and of course with pages in colour!

Sounds interesting. The only thing is that I don't really like waiting for a series to be published. Maybe once the entire series has been published, I'll read it.

Color pages, you don't see that often :)

These are some of my favorite covers.

= Descendants of Darkness 2 by Matsushita Youko. Hisoka's eyes are ridiculous and I love them.

= Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne 6 by Tanemura Arina. I've always liked her weird, complicated, squarish art, even though it seems to have lost something in its later refinement.

= Hana Kimi 14 by Nakajou Hisaya. I thought it was so beautiful that I bought it and THEN started from the beginning. I can't say I'm super fond of her art in general, but this cover I really like.

= Pieces of a Spiral 9. Tachibana Kaimu is my absolute favorite managaka who I first discovered through her artbooks. Shinesman is LOVE, I tell you, LOVE!

= Angel Sanctuary 9 by Kaori Yuki, whose art is just GAH! I don't know how you can look at this cover and not be intrigued to find out what's inside.

= Ceres: Celestial Legend 6 by Watase Yuu. I thought her art reached a pinnacle in this series and that this cover was especially beautiful.

Genji 8 by Kouga Yun - another whose art in general is just so gorgeous. I especially like her early work when she would use bright oranges, pinks and lime greens in a very 80s kind of way.

I've also always liked CLAMP's covers for RG Vega

MeruPuri vol. 2 to be exact.

Also, I like all of Hot Gimmick's covers. The omnibus editions especially.

Tokyo Boys and Girls cover art was nice, the story and art inside was blah though.

Gokinjo Monogatari's pretty interesting. The covers form a montage when joined together.

OT: I read the entire series in one sitting and gave me this fluffy feeling after. ^^

Much better series than the the manga-ka's more populer Vampire Knight, hands down. Gave up on that after volume 6.

I like any art by Arina Tanemura! I think she has improved since Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne though. I love the covers of her artbooks especially. My favorite is The Art of Full Moon I liked it so much, I bought it twice! lol~ nawww....I had bought it in Japanese and when it came out in the U.S. I bought it in English. She made comments on every picture, so I wanted to be able to read that. While I like the art in The Gentlemen's Alliance †: Arina Tanemura Illustrations, she doesn't have notes about the art, which is disappointing.

I love the covers for Chi's Sweet Home. They're so charming and cute.

I picked up Black Butler because I thought the covers were nice, too.

Kyo Kara Maoh has a nice cover series. I tend to like covers that sort of group together so you can visually tell that they belong to a series.

But my absolute favorite is for the first volume of Gankutsuou. It's so lovely, it looks like a jeweled book.

I really like the second one, it's from the Cross Gentleman's Alliance Artbook, although the story was not that great, some Covers were great.

Some I like:

Her colors are great. I hate when American publishers mess around with the title colors though and throw off the balance.

I haven't seen the cover for the last volumes of Godchild but I guess I'll be buying it soon.

Though completely unplanned, I found and bought Godchild vols 2-7 at a local used book store for $3.95 each. Now all I have to get is 1 and 8 and I'll have the complete series.
