This corner is quieter than my own humble group devoted to ME culture. I thought I'd mention (as I'm currently procrastinating on a project and wired on caffeine) that the Egyptian novelist Gamal Al Ghitani (his Zayni Barakat is a must read) has a new novel out this year: Pyramid Texts. Thanks for having me, btw.

We just got started, but hopefully the group will grow and become more interesting as time goes on. I think these two groups complement one another, since yours is focused on a more specific topic while this one is more general. I have a strong interest in the region, but I am not a specialist and don't speak the languages, so this group is a better fit for people like me.
I don't really know what the point of LT groups are--I don't have any specific reason for starting this one, or the two others I started (Art History and World History). Mostly, it's just something to do to pass the time and procrastinate from doing more useful things. It's a fun way to pass the time.

I think you hit it right on the head - though I have managed to pick some useful information (and recipes) in the course of dalliance. Good luck!
