I just wanted to know what you people think about what will happen in the second book of the Hunger Games, titled Catching Fire.

No spoilers please...

Ooh blimey i can't wait for Catching Fire! I reckon that The Capitol will do something to make an example of Katniss as payback for her stunt in the final of the Hunger Games. And there is going to be some tension between Gale and Peeta ... i sense perhaps a triangle? dang it i want to read it again... *runs to cupboard*

Hear Hear!

I wonder what her sister and mom are going to think about it?

*runs to cupboard* What do you mean by that?

Ah i had a manic urge to re-read the Hunger Games and that was my slightly odd way of miming dashing to my book cupboard to get it out to read. Incidentally enough i did start re-reading it that evening and finished it the next day- second time round it is still as awesome as the first time.
Sorry for acting wierd - i have slight book OCD (or so i would like to think as it seems the most logical reason for my behaviour)

I agree about the tension between Gale and Peeta.
Who do you guys think Katniss should be with?

Oh...
I seemed to have misinterpreted it. I suppose that you are driving at *runs to the BOOKSHELF* in a british way...
In the end, I hope that Katniss will be with Peeta...

>7 thesundaybookreport: yea something to that effect. I don't technically have a bookshelf - it's a cupboard with 6 shelves and 4 rows of books on each (i have storage problems quite frequently when i buy new books) Am i that obviously British? darn it lol

Yea i'm all for Katniss and Peeta - we just don't see that much of Gale in the Hunger Games so we don't know if he likes Katniss in that way . Maybe we shall be enlightened in the second books

I absolutely loved The Hunger Games that I am going to pre-order the second book in the set so I can read it as soon as it comes out. I recommended the first book to several of the kids at the high school where I work. It had been a while since I had read a book that I couldn't wait to finish and pass on to other people. I could see Katniss with either Gale or Peeta so its hard to pick just one.

The first book only poked at at a possible romance between Gale and Katniss. Katniss did seem to have conflicting thoughts between whether or not their friendship was a friendship or something more.

I think her relationship with Peeta will go downhill now that he knows she was only pretending. Although, I do think that a few times Katniss' loving treatment for Peeta when he was injured was real.

Nah...

Katniss will be with Peeta...

All of it couldn't have been THAT fake...

I thought that Hunger Games was much more interesting for the dystopia than the potential of romance, so I sort of hope that Catching Fire will focus more on the political upheaval rather than Katniss's choice between the two boys. If you want to read about a girl's choice between a sexy and mysterious guy and a loving, sweet one, read Twilight.

I think Katniss will investigate the sciene going on in the Captial that made all the losing contestents into those wolf thingys. I think Rue's death is going to haunt her for a long time and it'll give her a chance at revenge.

14> Glad to hear it's good.

I was really sorry, though, that this didn't end with one book. I know this whole series thing means more money for authors, and bless them, because there aren't that many who are fortunate enough to be able to quit their day jobs. Still, some stories work better with just a single volume, and I think this could have been one such, especially if you're willing to dispense with the "happy ending" or with "wrapping everything up nice and neatly." This could have been a dystopian story with a dystopian conclusion.

I agree with you, i was actually kind of disappointed when i saw it said end of book one, instead of finishing it, but Catching Fire was SO good.

Didn't it say towards the end of the Hunger Games that Katniss and Peeta would be expected to visit all the other districts? So they'll be thrown back together again and I bet she ends up liking him by the end of it.

I can't imagine Gale would want to be with Katniss if he thinks she just used Peeta. It would be one thing if the two of them had agreed to pretend to be in love, but she just led him on.

I got an ARC of Catching Fire from work (yay bookselling!), and it was awesome. I read straight through it in one night.

>12 weener:: I agree! I feel like the romance angle annoys Katniss as much as it annoys me! I was talking to a girl who'd read The Hunger Games at work yesterday, and she complained about all the romance. I told her it bothered me, too, but it's what all those airheads at the Capitol would expect, and we, like Katniss, are supposed to hate it. Also: don't worry, there's definitely plenty of political stuff in Catching Fire! I won't say more for fear of spoiling someone, though.

I think that the trouble that Peeta and Kat caused by winning The Hunger Games will be explored more thoroughly.

I think kat will have to choose between Peeta and Gale and that the romance angle will have a lot more room in the second book.

I hope that the werewolves created by the Capitol Games people will be put out of their misery - especially the young girl Kat befriended.

I'm really excited. We are days away from the Catching Fire release!

Hunger Games has been one of my favorite reads this year, and I think that we will see that Gale is Kat's soul mate so they will probably get together after lots of strife... I think that Kat's problems with the Capitol are not over. I think that some of the things done by the stylists were subversive and that they are probably a part of an underground resistantce group. I think that the girl that can't speak will come into play somehow.
