Hello Everyone,
I'm a new knitter, (I've only learned the knit stitch so far), and am happily amazed at how many people I meet and talk with knit. I am pleased to be in the company of all of you!

Welcome to LT and the absorbtion/obsession which is fiber. I tripped over my yarn and fell into spinning and never got up. Plus then you can add books to your collection on spinning, knitting, dyeing...

Welcom likesbooksrs. It is a growing addiction. Be prepared to devote money and storage space to yarn.
Welcome to the group!

I'm a new knitter too. So far I'm just doing square dishcloths but hope to move on to something more advanced soon.

I finished my first project, a scarf (isn't that everyone's first?), about a month ago. I'm about to complete a baby afghan, which is relatively easy, but has been a challenge for me. Next, I'm moving on to a poncho/shawl (I have directions for both) and am definitely hooked on knitting!
And I'm so pleased to find this group!

Hi, me again...new question...
I know which the right side is, but I don't know where it should face when the directions say "Next Row (RS): K33". Is the right side facing me when the piece is on the left needle? Or is the right side facing away from me?

Normally this direction will refer to having the Right Side facing you, so that if you are doing stockinette, the smooth side is toward you and knitting will continue that effect. The work will start out on the left needle and move to the right one.

If you are working in the round, the Right Side is usually the outside of the circle.

The "right side" can also be referred to as the "public side" or the side of a knitted garment (a sweater, for example) which everyone sees when you wear it.

While knitting, if the pattern indicates (RS) or (WS) it is telling you which side of the knitting should be facing you on the needle in your left hand when you start knitting that row. So when the directions say "Next Row (RS): K33" you should have the right/public side of the knitting facing you when you begin knitting.

I hate it when the pattern says, "End on WS and in next row do thus and so."

Why don't they just say, "Beginning on the RS, do thus and so."

I know what they mean, but it just strikes me as bad direction writing.

The right side is facing you when your work is on the left needle before you start a row, so that the right side is facing you while you are knitting the row.
