Whenever a new book comes out on poly and open relationships, I have to buy it and read it. Tristan Taormino's Opening Up is the newest addition to the market. I've only read some of it so far, and it's so good that it's right up there beside The Ethical Slut (possibly may even surpass it) as the first book you should read if you're interested in poly or any form of open relationship.

I'm curious to hear what other people think of it.

I really liked Opening Up. (And I hated The Ethical Slut with a passion!) I loved how clearly it was written, and that it didn't advocate one relationship style over any other.

I have Opening Up but I haven't read it yet. I've met Tristan Taormino and absolutely adore her. I've started The Ethical Slut a couple of times, but have yet to finish it--things keep getting in the way. Apparently, a second edition is coming out in March.

Opening Up is excellent. I was lucky enough to get a preview copy before it came out, and I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of relationship styles and the examples it gave of them. I also like that it explicitly addressed pros and cons. I have not been able to get very far in reading The Ethical Slut; something about it just turns me off. I guess it presents an open-relationship-positive philosophy, but didn't seem very nuanced or instructional. Maybe it just wasn't what I needed at the time, and I should give that one another chance. Regardless, Opening up is the book I would (and have, in my job as a bookseller!) recommend to the curious.
