What's the difference between autobiography and memoir?

My understanding is that a memoir is just about a certain period in a person's life (for example, their wartime experience or their their childhood) whereas an autobiography covers all (or most) of their life.

No need to check facts in an autobiography, a memoir should be cross checked a million times
