The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, though not technically a "South American" piece of fiction should certainly find a warm home amongst the members of this group.

Diaz is a fresh voice, a marvelous young writer who introduces us to fabulously created one of a kind characters all of whom are shaped by their shared Dominican experience and heritage.

I am thoroughly enjoying the trip and have but 100 pages to go.

Highly recommended!

We read this book for my last book group meeting. I had read it a year ago but the discussion made me want to re-read it. Yes, I did like it, too.

i just finished the section where Beli's father Aberlard loses everything due to a drunkard off-hand remark that brings the full wrath of the Trujillo torture regimie upon the head of he and his whole family. Truly chilling scenes.

Diaz has obviously also written within this novel an expose of the evil done during the Trujillo reign of terror.
