Just in time for Christmas, for that special someone...
Soviet Rocket Fighters which documents the rocket-powered fighter aircraft the Russians experimented with during WW2 and right after, including their copies of the Me163 and Me263. Part of Midland's Red Star series.

Horten Ho229 "Spirit of Thuringia on the design and development of the Horten flying wings at the end of WW2. Beautiful schematics and plans in this book, which is part of Classic Publications series on Luftwaffe aircraft. David Myhra has written three books on the Horten aircraft which are more comprehensive than this book though.

Schlachtflieger! Germany and the Origins of Air/Ground Support, 1916-1918 is a history of the ground attack staffeln, aircraft, weapons, and tactics of the German Air Service in WW1. Aircraft camouflage and personal markings are shown in color profiles. Hundreds of b&w photos of the air crew and their planes. Extremely well done book on an obscure subject.

Also in time (and on sale!) for Christmas is my own new book on aviation history:

Dictatorship of the Air: Aviation Culture and the Fate of Modern Russia which tells the story of Russia's quest for aviation prominence from the turn of the century through the end of World War II. The book includes 60 b&w illustrations/photographs, most of which have never before appeared in print.

Hi, I missed this apparently this new book of you. But I have your very interesting book about Dictatorship in the air, it is a great piece of research and of (concise) writing. Please give some information about your new book.

* Correction * I had not realized that the posting was from December 2006. May I hope for a new book on this subject from you?

Cheers

I am reading THE ATLAS OF AVIATION HISTORY by Dana Bell which is published by the Smithsonian Institution in D.C. It is a review of Aircraft Charts used by aviators since the first balloon flights up until today. It is well illustrated with color charts, system routes and advertising posters from Airline companies. The most modern charts include examples of Jet High Altitude Charts, Jet Navigation Charts, Military Operational Charts, World Aeronautical Charts, En-route Low Altitude Charts, Visual Flight Rules Terminal Area Charts, Helicopter Route Charts and Airport Layout Charts. This is also a good work for those who love to study maps, especially historical maps. There is a great deal in this work about early commercial airline service. It's great for browsing.
