Let me preface this with a disclaimer. I am not a Dr. Who fan, I just live with someone who has the sickness.
Has anyone seen the Dr. Who Agatha Christie episode? I thought it was fun in a completely ridiculous I-could-so-have-done-better way. It's worth a look just to pick out the AC titles from the dialogue.

I thought the story as a whole was fine, until the alien wasp made an appearance,at which point it became just too daft for words. The actress who played Agatha Christie was absolutely fantastic however.

Yes. The giant wasp. I think they could have completely nixed that whole plot - made it a serious whodunnit. I was hoping they would build the story around her disappearance in a similar way to the film starring Dustin Hoffman. Clever, clever movie.

It wasn't a reference to death in the clouds was it by any chance? A locked room Pirrot mystery which features a wasp. Not seen the episode so just a thoery.

If I remember it right,in the 'Dr.Who Confidential' which followed this episode, there was mention made ,that the idea came from the cover of one of the early paperback editions, which showed an aircraft and a wasp. The wasp didn't appear in the story however.

Ah, now I see it. And the wasp made an appearance in the Suchet version of Death in the Clouds. But still and all, wierd.

The actress who played Christie is actually a well-known personality. I enjoyed the episode, but that's coming from a Dr. Who fan. It helps knowing that the show is completely over the top and unrealistic. Then you can laugh through all the episodes....though I'm not sure they started the show to be a comedy.

Well, don't forget that the show is really for kids, so what may seem ridiculous to you is probably the fact it's toned down because 5-10 year olds are the main target. Since they have such a large fan base, they are forced to add something for adults too. I guess not everyone is as open-minded and understanding as I am when it comes to "the big picture."
