I was given a copy of U.S. Presidents Factbook by Elizabeth Jewell for my birthday. Thought I'd go through the chapters little by little rather than read the book straight through. Obviously not anywhere near as in-depth as the other books mentioned in this group, but it looks like a handy reference volume. Anyone else familiar with this one?

Yes, I'm pretty familiar with it. I wrote it.

Edited to add my thanks to the person who bought it for you!!

So . . . Is it any good?

Ha! Just kidding.

My buddy bought a copy for himself, first, started reading it and decided I'd like it as well. I liked the chapter on Washington very much. I think it's a great resource you've put together, there. Thanks!

Thanks! I do think the earlier chapters are better than the later ones, quite honestly--I took more time and then as the schedule crept up on me, I had less time to do research. The last several chapters bear the imprint of freelancers who helped out, and at least one was, in my opinion, not as unbiased as I would have liked. Though maybe I'm not completely unbiased, either!

And, to some extent, it's easier to be evenhanded about presidents one has not lived through.

I particularly enjoyed researching the world events for the bulleted list of those during each term and the presidential trivia in a similar list. That's how I stumbled over one of my favorite bits of trivia--the information that Edgar Allan Poe, as a student at the University of Virginia, dined with Thomas Jefferson at Monticello (and attended his funeral). But I would have liked to be a fly on the wall for that dinner conversation!

Glad to hear your friend recommended it. Virtual hugs to him.

As I mentioned in the first post of this thread, I decided to read U.S. Presidents Factbook little by little rather than straight through so as to keep all the chapters from running together in my feeble brain. I finally finished it this week.

I have to say, "Bravo and well done!" Each president gets a chapter, and each chapter is nicely written and informative. Certainly a fun read and a valuable resource.
