Tunguska Fireball Event

The actual Tunguska event that was a key point in Against the Day happened exactly 100 years ago, today.

Well, I, thought it was pretty cool, anyhow ... after all, it really happened and it could happen again at almost any second.

Now, that would be exciting, right?

Oh, sorry. I read this a long time ago from you. I did find it interesting. Nevertheless, I think I remember beinf distracted from my computer and had to brush everything aside...and time passed, and I forgot to respond...

So sorry.

Nevertheless, this group is about as reclusive as you-know-who, it would seem.

The Tunguska thing reminded me of dialogue from Ghostbusters:

Dr Ray Stantz: Are you okay?
Louis: Who are you guys?
Dr Ray Stantz: We're the Ghostbusters.
Louis: Who does your taxes?
Dr Ray Stantz: You know, Mr. Tully, you are a most fortunate individual.
Louis: I know!
Dr Ray Stantz: You have been a participant in the biggest interdimensional cross rip since the Tunguska blast of 1909!
Louis: Felt great.
Dr. Egon Spengler: We'd like to get a sample of your brain tissue.
Louis: Okay.

And the Ecto-1 looks disturbingly familiar to the car on the cover of "Inherent Vice." Maybe the Pynch is a Ghostbusters fan. The humor, apocalyptic narrative, preterite characters (the parapsychologists, etc.), and variety of diction (from the uber-technical to the jokey and back again) all seem Pynchonesque. At some point while watching the movie, you tend to forget the rather convoluted plot and just enjoy the ride, like any good Pynchon book.

Or maybe I'm the only one seeing these connections and I'm paranoid.

Was Pynchon an influence to Dan Aykroyd when he wrote "Ghostbusters"?

Well, how about that! I actually (well, sort of (well, not really)) predicted the recent Russian meteorite more than five years ago (post #2, above - pats self on back (grin))!
