I live in Rockville, Maryland, and for two years have been enjoying the fun and antics of Bookcrossing. Check out the idea of it at Bookcrossing.com.
My local group, called "BC in DC" because we cover the entire DC metropolitan area (MD/DC/VA), has monthly meetings at changing venues in which we talk about and exchange books. In addition, we do book festivals, special projects, and field trips. It's a very laid back group of people of all ages (currently ages 1 year to 65!), and there is no cost to join. Our common denominator is that we are all total bibliophiles (many of whom are addicted to LibraryThing as well as Bookcrossing).
