Does anyone know where I can get patterns for tartan afghans. Years ago I had one - King George pattern I believe. My afghan came out beautifully, if I say so myself. I have searched and searched stores and the Internet to no avail.

Gowing I would see if either the Vogue knitting book or one of Barbara Walker's brilliant stitch books has a tartan stitch pattern and then just adapt it for the size you want. Since an afghan is generally a rectangle the math should be pretty simple just repeat it until it reaches the dimensions you want.

Is this the tartan pattern you were thinking of? If not, you can search the Scotweb tartan website for the correct pattern name, and that might help your search for a knitting pattern.

A Google search found several tartan patterns in crochet or afghan stitch, but knitted patterns are harder to find. Karens Variety sells vintage patterns and downloads, including quite a few for afghans. Maybe you could find your old pattern there?

Ravelry has links to several tartan patterns. If you are not up to designing your own, maybe you can modify one of those.

Thanks so much to both of you for the ideas. I am going to look into them.

I forgot to point out - On the Karens Variety website, you can click on the illustration of any booklet to see color illustrations of the patterns it contains. I hope you find something you can use.
