Parnassus on Wheels: has anyone else read it? Did you like it?

I bought it from a used bookstore years ago. The story isn't epic or moving, but it's cute and filled with little gems: "When you sell a man a book you don't sell him just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue - you sell him a whole new life."

It's just the sort of book you curl up with for an afternoon (a short afternoon- it's only 160 pages) to reinforce your bibliophilia.

Yes, JessicaOrr, I have read Parnassus on Wheels, and I agree with you that it's a pleasant tale worth reading, especially for bibliophiles. I especially like the character of Helen. I'd suggest brewing some tea or coffee before curling up with it. Or, even better, it may well be the perfect book to keep you company on a hammock or lawn swing.

You should also read The Haunted Bookshop, which is a sequel to Parnassus. I think I liked Parnassus better, but it's also enjoyable to make the acquaintance of the young man and woman in The Haunted Bookshop. That book features some mystery having to do with German spies (it was published in 1918).

There are some interesting LT reviews about The Haunted Bookshop. I was just reading some of them, and you might like to have a look at them, too.

I read The Haunted Bookshop not long ago and really enjoyed it. Though I was thinking as I read it that the young man's behavior and pursuit of the lady would in today's world be considered chauvinist at the least and at worst stalking.

I read both of these books just this past weekend. I liked them both but I think Parnassus on Wheels was the more enjoyable. A gem of a book.

Wow. A massive dose of I don't know what. I just received The Haunted Bookshop from Amazon less than an hour ago.

No constructive criticism. I just wanted to share my new purchase with everyone.

I've read them both a couple of times. Both are wonderful and I highly recommend them.

I've read both Parnassus on Wheels and The Haunted Bookshop, and loved them both! They are absolutely wonderful books, sweet without being overly precious, and perfect for a booklover to read on a peaceful afternoon.
