55Yuki-Onna
Sep 30, 2023, 6:20 am

36. Lost Places in der Region Stuttgart = Lost Places in the region of Stuttgart by Benjamin Seyfang was finished today. Once I realized that after the introduction, which put me off the book initially, it was mainly comprised of photographs, this was a pretty quick deal to finish.

Now 34. She kills me (Non-fiction about murderous females throughout history) and
38. The Changeling are ongoing reads.

That means I've now officially reached and surpassed my initial tentative goal of finishing 35 books this year which makes me happy. ...

56Yuki-Onna
Oct 5, 2023, 3:14 pm

34. She kills me was just finished.

I'll surely relish the remaining short stories of 47.;
51. also very started promising.

Just now started another one, a richly illustrated book about dragons, eponymously titled.
52. Drachen (= dragons) by Johan Egerkrans. That's the third book by him I'll read, I really enjoy his work.

78Yuki-Onna
Déc 6, 2023, 7:41 am

I'm pausing 47. Hotel Africa for now, as I want to prioritise my reads for the #Gottacatchemall reading challenge on Litsy.
I want to catch as many Pokémon as possible, and Hotel Africa doesn't qualify for any prompts. ;)

Started another one, 53. Hörnchen& Bär, by Andreas H. Schmachtl.

Déc 10, 2023, 11:32 am

Just finished the novella The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson that I started yesterday. Flew through it, Peter Swanson never disappoints.
Subsequently also flew through the childrens' book
56. Findus at Christmas by Sven Nordqvist.

Now with my longer reads
47. Hotel Africa still paused, as not very wintery;
and 53. ongoing (but another childrens'); I am likely to start another longer adult read later today.
I am on sick leave, so what better thing is there to do but read?

82Yuki-Onna
Déc 14, 2023, 2:33 am

Fitted in a quick reread of
57. Mary's little donkey by Gunhild Sehlin to complete a prompt for #Gottacatchemall on Litsy on December 12 - 13. I read it often in my childhood, but it didn't work for me anymore.

Started two other reads yesterday night:
58. Moominsummer madness by Tove Jansson - Another reread of another classic of my childhood, which seems to still live up to the fond memories; &
59. The travelling cat chronicles by Hiro Arikawa.

92Yuki-Onna
Déc 31, 2023, 4:27 pm

Just finished 64. The Bad Beginning. Here, it is still the 31st December. The last 90 mins of 2023...

Now 47. is my only ongoing read, wich was paused for most of December, but which I will resume tomorrow. It wasn't wintery enough for me to read in December and didn't fit any of the prompts of the reading challenge I was participating in on Litsy, but now...
It has been very very mild for the last two weeks anyways, so it's ok Hotel Africa doesn't have those winter vibes.

That means I read 66 books in 2023, a number I would never have thought possible. :)
Will start the 2024 thread tomorrow.

93Yuki-Onna
Modifié : Jan 4, 11:13 am

Finished book 47. Hotel Africa, a very strong anthology, today, Jan. 4 of 2024.
The read was started on November 15, 2023 (while in South Africa), I paused the book between December 6 and 31.
It's stories about/set in hotels all over Africa, by African writers.
I'm so glad I came across this book - I thoroughly enjoyed nearly all the stories and learned a shit ton from it. It shows how little we know (at least I did) about life in Africa.
The last story even features Donald Trump - in a very true and unfavourable way. (I'm talking 'Sh**hole countries') Found a few new promising writers I'm definitely going to keep an eye on.
What a fascinating, diverse continent, what a great book!
