Forever Home; Forever Library

My wife and I moved 17 times in 36 years, so when we moved to what we hope will be our “forever” home it was time to finally build some permanent bookcases. Phase 1 is done.

The bookshelves are white ash hardwood, with birch plywood backing. I built each floor-to-ceiling unit in two sections; put them in place; and attached both to 1” x 3” anchor strips of wood secured to the studs. After they were installed, I added LED light fixtures, trim, and moulding. There’s also a brass rail mounted where the upper and lower units connect which holds the ladder. The project took about of year of mostly weekend work.

I appreciate all the ideas and photos shared on this forum over the years. Those examples really helped.
