Problems - author Juan González Núñez

I'm having trouble trying to sort out the author Juan González Núñez.

He wrote Etiopia - hombres, lugares y mitos (also available in Portuguese as Etiópia Homens, lugares e mitos) and Addis Ababa Through the Eyes of its Founders - A Historical Guide to the Ethiopian Capital under this name.
He wrote North of the Blue Nile : the Gumuz people under the name Juan Gonzalez Nuñez.
He has also been catalogued as Juan Gonzalez Nunez.

Unfortunately, because of problems caused by importing titles with diacriticals, he's also been catalogued twice as Juan Gonzez Nnez and this is the name that wins out when I try to combine titles and author names...

Other problems when trying to combine this author:
There is an author listed in the combination options as Juan González Nuñez but whose name turns out to be Ahmed González-Nuñez, with no works currently catalogued.

There is also a Juan González Núñez who is supposedly combined with Ángel González Núñez, but I can't find him under the Ángel González Núñez listings to check whether he should be or not, or to uncombine him.

Is there any option to correct this author's name in the listing, other than filling in the Canonical name?

>1 newcrossbooks: That's one of the cases where setting the Canonical name is the correct thing to do :)

BTW, I was able to remove Manuel González Núñez from Angel. Just another complication here.

It's interesting that, with the Canonical name set, the name Juan Gonzez Nnez no longer appears on the list of the author's optional names. I guess it's not really a problem as it is a cataloguing error and he's never written under that name.

>4 newcrossbooks: That has to do with how Canonical names get shown - essentially it overwrites the actual value in that list of names. That's part of why we really do not like Canonical names to be set unnecessarily around here - it makes it very hard to troubleshoot. The name is in there - it just shows up differently now.

Juan Gonzez Nnez may be an artifact of how some libraries and other sources present special characters (how they lost the "l" is unclear but it can be part of cleaning up for the previous character) - they simply skip them sometimes. So not unheard of. :)
