I've entered numerous books manually before this but now I seem to be stuck.
I enter all the fields and click Save at the end, and nothing happens.
I am using Chrome v106 on Windows 7.
No extensions that could be interfering.
Also I note that on the Manual Entry screen, when I click the '+' beside Pagination, it won't add another line, but instead brings me back up to the top. I can have one pagination line but no more. I don't know if this has anything to do with the inability to Save anything.
Please follow up, thanks !

I will look into this

Unfortunately I can't recreate this. I tried on my own account and on yours (although I didn't add a book, just tested the + button on pagination) and I didn't see a problem.
Just to make sure we're looking at the same page, can you give me the url of the page you're having problems with? Thanks.

I will try again and maybe test it with Firefox

It works now with both Chrome and Firefox. Happily, just a glitch of some kind I guess. Will let you know if it recurs

I've been having the same problem with manual entry. Clicking "Save"(or for that matter, "Help" at the bottom of the page does nothing. Firefox 113.0, Win 11, but previous versions had the same issue. Particularly frustrating because of my antique collection and numerous Chinese books to add.

Is the issue here?
/addnew.php#
Code line 121-126. Can't figure out how to copy/paste.
line 123 is
onsubmit="book_saveChanges(); return false;"

'Needs discussion' is not an active bug status. It means that it is NOT something that can be easily dealt with, but that developers might talk about when they have free time after all the 'two week' issues have been dealt with.
You can choose to reopen this old bug, which may or may not be the same as your present problem, and gives the impression that your problem will also just clear itself up. Or you can open a new bug report.

I generally think of "needs discussion" as "the staff are waiting for input from users, who should re-open the issue when they provide it".

>8 Ken.Jones: I have noticed that sometimes you have to click the Save button twice to get it to work. Have you tried this? It's still a bug, but I'm wondering if that's what you're seeing or if it's never working.

>16 Ken.Jones: I just added a book manually so there is something either in your browser/system or in one of the fields you are trying to fill that is causing the issue.
This one was from Safari on iPhone. I added another one from Firefox on Windows a day before your report.
Can you try to add a book with just a title and author and see what happens? If that works, start adding more fields until you isolate the issue. If it does not work, what plugins/addons do you have? Any security software that may be blocking the site? Popup blockers, Always HTTPS, forwarding blockers - they all had been reported to cause issues in different places so disable everything and see what happens?

>18 AnnieMod: Hi, AnnieMod
I tried as you said with just title and author, but to no avail.
I noticed at the top of the page source there's a link to ajax.googleapis.com, so on a lark I tried pinging it. It resolves to a numeric IP, but no responses to ping. I'm in China, and Google and the Internet folks here have some differences of opinion, to put it charitably. Can you try a simple ping to ajax and see whether you get a response?
Maybe it's not a bug at all. I have encountered previous problems, such as with Google's reCAPTCHA.
NOT A BUG. Just requires a VPN. It's a Great Firewall thing, not a LibraryThing thing. Fired up a VPN, and everything works as intended.
However, depending on other folks' code is kind of the lazy way out. I know it's the biggest API library in the universe, but it also creates problems for 1/5 of the world's population. I suppose programmer's philosophies differ, and far be it for me to dictate.

Still having the same problem. Can't save manual adds, can't save edits. Click "Save" a buncha times, still no go. Firefox and Edge same stuff, different browser
